COURSE OF STUDY - OFFICE TECHNOLOGY
GRADE 9 EXPLORATORY – COURSE #OTX 1 CREDIT
During the Freshman Exploratory Program, students will be exposed to word processing applications, spreadsheet applications, presentation applications, keyboarding, and web page development. Students will participate in an Introduction to Accounting, Computerized Business Simulations using Virtual Sports Business Computer Simulation and an Introduction to Finance, Law and Stock Markets using IPAD technology. Instructors will also provide an overview of 21st century, high-paying and high demand career opportunities.
GRADE 9 SHOP – COURSE #OTXF-16 10 CREDITS
Office Technology freshmen students will be exposed to all areas of the Office Technology industry. Students will continue to build their word processing, spreadsheet and presentation computer skills. Students will also be further introduced to accounting, finance, marketing, and management programs using simulations.
GRADE 10 SHOP – COURSE #OT2 20 CREDITS
Grade 10 students will receive in depth training on Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), keyboarding, Informational Technology and Accounting and Computer Related Theory, web page Development, Business, Finance, Marketing and Law Projects and “All Aspects of the Trade Instruction.”
GRADE 10 RELATED – COURSE #OT2R 5 CREDITS
This course introduces students to traditional accounting concepts and terminology. Curriculum covers in detail the entire accounting cycle from basic transactions to closing entries. Students are also introduced to key informational technology concepts.
GRADE 11 SHOP – COURSE #OT3 25 CREDITS
Grade 11 students receive, Computerized Accounting and Income Tax Prep Instruction, planning and implementation of Intermediate Business Projects, as well as continued and enhanced instruction in Microsoft Office programs, web design projects and “All Aspects of the Trade Instructions.”
GRADE 11 RELATED – COURSE #OT3R 5 CREDITS
In the Grade 11 course, students build upon what was introduced during the sophomore year. Students will a start to acquire knowledge that will begin to prepare them for entry-level employment in the business field. Students will also prepare and manage ledgers, payroll reports and financial statements.
GRADE 12 SHOP – COURSE #OT4 25 CREDITS
Each student will have an opportunity to develop “Employability Skills” by working as student aides in various offices and departments throughout the school. Each student will have an opportunity to gain practical experience by working in our School’s branch of the Saugus Federal Credit Union as a bank teller. Grade 12 students will also complete Advanced Microsoft Office Training, Technology or Accounting Related Theory, Business Projects or Web Page and “All Aspects of the Trade Instruction.”
GRADE 12 RELATED – COURSE #OT4R 5 CREDITS
An advance course that will reinforce concepts learned in the previous two years of related. This course will focus on accounting for a merchandizing corporation. Depreciation and Inventory valuation will be introduced. Students will complete and present the requirements of the Junior/Senior Project.
