GRADE 9 meetings and presentations focus on vocational interest and work place assessments, exploration of occupations, and goal setting. Freshmen learn about earning acdemic and exploratory credits. We ask students to think of what they can do this year to plan for their future success, and to realize the commitment it takes to reach those goals. We discuss learning how to make decisions and setting action plans. 9th grade goal setting focuses on setting academic and technical goals such as: doing the best they can every exploratory to be competitive and to have as many options as possible, identifying resources in the school, understanding the connection between academics and school to work programs, researching occupations, and getting help to get organized and improving study habits. We discuss setting personal and social goals such as the benefits of: playing a sport, or volunteering in community service activities, or joining clubs. Students are encouraged to explore career paths, to do further research to understand what skills, training and education they need to be successful in a career, and are asked to identify their interests, and think about what would give them job satisfaction.
Northeast Metro Tech HS sponsors a kudernavigator.com online account for all our students and their parents/guardians. All freshmen are vocationally tested with the Kuder online Interest, Skills and Workplace Assessments in small groups in the Career Center. Once all students are tested, they have individual meetings with the Career Counselor and/or their Freshmen Counselor to review assessment results, learn to use their kudernavigator.com account, identify and save for further research any occupational and career paths of interest, and create their 9th grade Career Plan. Parents/guardians will be notified when this meeting occurs (November through January) and can now follow the instructions to open their own account to review their student's online assessment results, career plan, career interest clusters, and any saved/favorite occupations. This parent/guardian account is available until the student turns 18 years of age. Click the tab under this section labeled Parent/Guardian Accounts and follow the login directions. Any questions, contact Ms. Mills in the Career Center at x 1164.
