One skill/lesson you’ve learned at Northeast that you’ll take with you: At Northeast, I learned to step outside of my comfort zone and try new things. Pushing myself in that way has led to new opportunities and helped me grow both personally and academically.

A person who has inspired you to be your best: Ms. Carreno is someone who inspires me to achieve my goals and always do my best. She believed in me when I didn't even believe in myself. I will always be thankful for having her in my life.

Plans after graduation: After graduation, I plan to attend Regis College, where I will major in Dental Hygiene on a pre-dental track and run cross country and play lacrosse. 

During February break, Northeast students and chaperones participated in an enriching educational trip to Puerto Rico. Over five days, students explored the island’s history, culture, and natural beauty. Highlights included La Cueva Ventana (“Window Cave”), guided tours of Old San Juan and historic sites such as El Morro and San Cristóbal, snorkeling with a marine biologist, and visiting the glowing bioluminescent bay. Throughout the trip, students stepped outside their comfort zones, built stronger relationships with classmates and staff, and engaged in meaningful experiential learning that created lasting memories.

On Friday, February 27, Robotics juniors visited the new school building to tour their future space. Students were excited to see the facility and explore where they will soon be learning and working. In the image below, students, along with Robotics Department Head Mr. Caven, are gathered in the gymnasium.

On Tuesday, March 3, 166 Northeast students competed in the SkillsUSA District 3 Competition, an online exam that serves as a qualifier for the SkillsUSA State Competition, taking place Thursday, April 30 through Saturday, May 2. The district exam assessed students’ career technical knowledge, SkillsUSA organization knowledge, OSHA standards, and employability skills. Thank you to our shop instructors for their dedication in preparing students for this event, and congratulations to our students on their hard work and commitment.

Electrical students recently completed a three-month lighting installation project at the Wakefield Masonic Lodge, installing wiring for new color-style LED lighting in the main temple. The project also included setting up the lighting control system, installing dimmers, and configuring control stations. This hands-on experience allowed students to apply their technical skills while working on a real-world installation.

On Tuesday, March 3, sophomore Health Assisting students visited the Chelsea Jewish Lifecare Adult Day Health Center to celebrate Purim with clients. The visit gave students the opportunity to connect with clients, share in the celebration, and continue building the communication and relationship skills that are essential in the health care field.

Dental Assisting seniors recently welcomed Dr. Wu as a guest speaker. A member of the program’s advisory board and owner of Emerson Dental in Weston and Bedford, Dr. Wu shared insights into his career path and the advanced technology used in his practice. He also demonstrated how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being integrated into dentistry to enhance patient care.

On Thursday, March 5, Design & Visual seniors in Mr. Peluso’s Studio 12 presented their President’s Day marketing campaign proposals to President and CEO Brian Kelly of the Kelly Auto Group. The presentations took place at Mr. Kelly’s curated auto museum, where students toured the collection and learned about his experiences in business. Students then presented their campaign ideas, showcasing creativity, professionalism, and presentation skills. Mr. Kelly was so impressed that he offered Design & Visual senior Dellana Wall (Saugus) a job opportunity after graduating in June. The experience provided students with a valuable opportunity to apply their technical and communication skills in a real-world setting.

As Trimester 3 begins, families are encouraged to have regular conversations about their student’s progress, learning, and development. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s teacher(s), school counselor, or dean with any questions or concerns.

To help students prepare for the Grade 10 ELA MCAS on Tuesday, March 24 and Wednesday, March 25, English classes will participate in focused preparation during the week of Monday, March 9. In addition, MCAS ELA Blitz after-school sessions will be offered in the library, providing Grade 10 students with targeted review, practice, and test-taking strategies designed to strengthen their skills and build confidence before the exam. All Grade 10 students are encouraged to attend.

➤ A signed event contract must be submitted to the student’s class advisor to attend.

➤ Tickets will not be sold at the door.

➤ Students must present their Northeast student ID for entry.

➤ Students should dress formally.

➤ Upon request, students may be asked to empty their pockets and have their belongings checked.

➤ Bags and backpacks are not permitted.

➤ No entry after 6:30 p.m. and no early dismissal before 9:00 p.m. unless preapproved by a dean.

➤ All school rules apply, as outlined in the Student Handbook.

➤ Thursday is a school day; students are expected to attend school in order to attend the event.

On Thursday, March 12, Grade 12 students will attend a healthy living assembly featuring Dr. Farhan Naeem, a Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The presentation will explore how everyday choices impact physical, emotional, and mental well-being, with a focus on prevention, self-awareness, and the effects of addiction, including substance use and excessive electronic/media use. Students will also learn practical coping strategies and healthy alternatives that promote balance and long-term wellness. This assembly reflects our continued commitment to supporting student well-being and informed decision-making. The course selection process for the 2026-2027 school year for students in Grades 9-11 will begin with the teacher recommendation window in early February. During this time, academic teachers will meet individually with students to review their progress and enter course recommendations in Aspen. In March, counselors will meet with students in the library by shop to review the teacher recommendations and request elective courses.

When planning a course of study, students and families are encouraged to reference the Northeast Program of Studies, which outlines course options, graduation requirements, and pathways aligned with students’ interests and postsecondary plans. The Program of Studies is available on the NEMT website under the Parents & Students tab. Students are encouraged to enroll in courses that reflect their interests and provide appropriate academic challenge.

In March, Grade 10 students will take their first of two MCAS tests. Throughout the year, students in the Class of 2028 have engaged in learning activities designed to prepare them for the ELA and Mathematics MCAS tests. To further support their success, students are strongly encouraged to complete the online practice tests.

In the weeks leading up to the ELA MCAS test, Grade 10 English teachers will share information about testing procedures and preparation strategies. Students will be reminded to get eight hours of sleep each night, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school before 7:45 a.m. so they are not rushed and have ample time to get settled. The use of electronic devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, is strictly prohibited during testing. If used, scores will be invalidated. Families are encouraged to discuss these guidelines with students. Most importantly, we wish Grade 10 students the best as they demonstrate their learning.

Participation in MCAS testing remains required under state and federal law. Assessment results will be used for school and district accountability purposes, as well as for eligibility for scholarships and recognitions such as the Adams Scholarship, the Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery, and the State Seal of Biliteracy.

The law change enacted in December 2024 did not change the requirement for students to participate in MCAS testing. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) will continue to use participation rates, achievement, and growth data as part of its annual district and school accountability system.

While students are no longer required to pass the MCAS to graduate, they must still earn a Competency Determination (CD) and meet all local graduation requirements as outlined in the Program of Studies.

✅ If your Chromebook is damaged, turn it in to the Tech Office as soon as possible.

✅ Bring your fully charged Chromebook to school each day.

✅ Ask your English and math teachers questions about MCAS testing.

✅ Review information about test design and development.

✅ Practice online at home to familiarize yourself with the testing format.

On Tuesday, March 24, and Wednesday, March 25, Grade 12 students will have a three-hour late start due to MCAS Grade 10 ELA testing. A bus run has been added, with buses arriving three hours later than their regular arrival time to accommodate this schedule.

Seniors should arrive at 11:00 a.m. and report directly to their Related classes for attendance with their shop department head. They will remain in Related until 11:31 a.m., at which time they will transition to lunch or their D block class. For the remainder of the day, seniors will follow their regular academic schedule.

Please note this late start applies only to Grade 12 students. On these MCAS testing days, Grade 10 students will test in the morning and follow their academic schedule once testing is complete. Grade 9 and 11 students will be in shops, as it is a Black Week. Grade 11 students on co-op should report to their placements as usual.

Northeast students and families are invited to join us for the fourth annual Multicultural Night on Wednesday, April 15, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Northeast cafeteria. The evening will feature food, music, traditional garments, live performances, artifacts, and more as we come together to celebrate the rich diversity of our school community.

After-school academic support is offered for all subjects. Students can get the extra help they need to succeed, whether it’s for a challenging class, test preparation, or Early College courses.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of this great opportunity to enhance their learning.

In addition to local graduation requirements, students must meet the Massachusetts Competency Determination (CD) requirement, as outlined in 603 CMR 30.00, as a condition of high school graduation. Northeast Metro Tech’s Competency Determination Policy may be viewed in this document. Families with questions are encouraged to contact the school for additional information.

As parking spaces have become available due to seniors being on Co-op, a limited number of spots will be open to Grade 11 students for Gold Weeks only. Beginning Sunday, December 14 at 12:00 p.m. (noon), interested juniors may complete the Student Parking Application Form to be added to a waitlist. Students in good standing, as approved by their dean, will be contacted in the order that the form was completed to purchase a parking sticker for $25 in the Business Office.

Once juniors receive a parking sticker, they may begin parking in the designated student parking areas during Gold Weeks only. As additional spaces become available, Grade 11 students will be contacted in the order the form was submitted. We aim to make as many spaces available to students as possible.

All student vehicles parked on Northeast Metro Tech property must have a parking sticker properly displayed (affixed to the windshield above the inspection sticker on the passenger side). The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open for students planning to attend colleges and career schools during the 2026-27 academic year. Students can complete the application at fafsa.gov, which is used by most colleges to determine financial aid eligibility.

Students and families seeking assistance may join MEFA’s free virtual FAFSA Festivals, offered now through February. Participants can log in at any point during the two-hour sessions and receive one-on-one support in a breakout room from a financial aid expert. Registration is required.
