Cosmetology seniors recently presented their Salon Business Plan projects, showcasing the business and industry skills they have developed throughout the year. Students created their own salon concepts, including branding, services, marketing strategies, and financial planning. Through an interdisciplinary collaboration with our Drafting & Design program, students also brought their ideas to life through detailed floor plans and 3D salon walkthroughs. The project gave students a realistic look at how creativity, design, and business planning come together in the salon industry.

To help students prepare for the Grade 10 Mathematics MCAS on Tuesday, May 19 and Wednesday, May 20, math classes will participate in focused preparation during the week of Monday, May 11. In addition, MCAS Math Blitz after-school sessions will be offered in the library, providing Grade 10 students with targeted review, practice, and test-taking strategies designed to strengthen their skills and build confidence before the exam. All Grade 10 students are encouraged to attend.
In-Class Preparation: Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 15
After-School Blitz Schedule (Library):
- Tuesday, May 12 through Thursday, May 14: 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
- Monday, May 18: 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Snacks will be provided, and late buses will be available at 3:30 p.m. for transportation home.
|
To accomodate MCAS Grade 10 Mathematics testing, Tuesday, May 19, and Wednesday, May 20, will be changed from Gold Days to Black Days. Please note the following:
- Grade 9 and 11 students will report to shops; Grade 11 students on co-op must report to shop.
- Grade 10 and 12 students will attend academic classes. (Grade 12 students have a three-hour delay)
- Grade 10 students will test in the morning, then follow their academic schedule once testing is complete.
- Grades 12 students on co-op may report to their placements; those who report to co-op will have their absences from academic classes excused.
|
On Tuesday, May 19, and Wednesday, May 20, Grade 12 students will have a three-hour late start due to MCAS Grade 10 Mathematics testing. A bus run has been added, with buses arriving three hours later than their regular arrival time to accommodate this schedule.
Seniors should arrive at 11:00 a.m. and report directly to their Related classes for attendance with their shop department head. They will remain in Related until 11:31 a.m., at which time they will transition to lunch or their D block class. For the remainder of the day, seniors will follow their regular academic schedule.
Please note this late start applies only to Grade 12 students. On these MCAS testing days, Grade 10 students will test in the morning and follow their academic schedule once testing is complete. Grade 9 and 11 students will report to shops, as both days are changed to Black Days. Grade 11 students on co-op must report to shop. Grade 12 students on co-op may report to their placements; those who report to co-op will have their absences from academic classes excused.
|
In May, Grade 10 students will take the next round of MCAS testing. Throughout the year, students in the Class of 2028 have engaged in learning activities designed to prepare them for the Mathematics MCAS test. To further support their success, students are strongly encouraged to complete the online practice tests.
In the weeks leading up to the Mathematics MCAS test, Grade 10 math teachers will share information about testing procedures and preparation strategies. Students will be reminded to get eight hours of sleep each night, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school before 7:45 a.m. so they are not rushed and have ample time to get settled. The use of electronic devices, including cell phones, earbuds, and smartwatches, is strictly prohibited during testing. If used, scores will be invalidated. Families are encouraged to discuss these guidelines with students. Most importantly, we wish Grade 10 students the best as they demonstrate their learning.
๐ Mathematics Session 1 - Tuesday, May 19
๐ Mathematics Session 2 - Wednesday, May 20
MCAS Participation & Graduation Requirements
Participation in MCAS testing remains required under state and federal law. Assessment results will be used for school and district accountability purposes, as well as for eligibility for scholarships and recognitions such as the Adams Scholarship, the Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery, and the State Seal of Biliteracy.
The law change enacted in December 2024 did not change the requirement for students to participate in MCAS testing. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) will continue to use participation rates, achievement, and growth data as part of its annual district and school accountability system.
While students are no longer required to pass the MCAS to graduate, they must still earn a Competency Determination (CD) and meet all local graduation requirements as outlined in the Program of Studies.
Important Reminders for Grade 10 MCAS Testing:
โ
If your Chromebook is damaged, turn it in to the Tech Office as soon as possible.
โ
Bring your fully charged Chromebook to school each day.
โ
Ask your math teachers questions about MCAS testing.
โ
Practice online at home to familiarize yourself with the testing format.
For any questions regarding MCAS testing, please contact Joseph OโBrien, test coordinator, at ๐ง jobrien@northeastmetrotech.com or ๐(781) 246-0810 ext. 1649.
